Marion Pursuing Special Census, Hiring Temporary Staff
In the near future, the U.S. Census Bureau will conduct a Special Census in Marion to get an updated population count. The City has requested a partial Special Census in order to secure its share of state revenues that provide essential public services.
Local residents are needed to work as crew leaders, enumerators and clerical staff. Enumerators visit households and collect a few facts about each member such as name, age, and relationship to the householder. Enumerators are paid $13.55 per hour, plus mileage and paid training.
Applications are now available. To be considered for temporary census employment, prospective applicants should be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license and vehicle, and have day, evening, and weekend availability. If selected, the work assignment will last approximately 3 to 5 weeks.

Paper copies can also be obtained at Marion City Hall. Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled.
Applicants will be contacted just prior to the Special Census to take a job-related test to further determine suitability for census employment.
