The mission of the Marion Building Department as adopted by Council is "to assure a safe, secure and stable built environment through uniform and fair enforcement of all building and related codes."

Marion City HallThe Building Department is responsible for enforcement of the building codes from permit application through plan review, inspection and final approval of all building construction projects within the city limits. A professional staff with nationally recognized certification strives to provide excellence in customer service. In addition to code enforcement, the department also provides public education and customer assistance.

The building construction industry spans the limits of technology from century-old trades such as stone masonry to state-of-the-art materials and methods of computer-operated, high-efficiency appliances. To maintain proficiency in all areas of the challenging field of building construction, continuing education is a high priority.

The Building Inspection office is located at City Hall, 1225 6th Avenue, and can be reached by telephoning (319) 743-6330. Ron Hoover is the head of this department. Feel free to stop by and visit about your next building project or send an e-mail to bldg@cityofmarion.org!
