OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE PUBLIC INPUT ON FUTURE LAND USE PLANNING IN THE CENTRAL CORRIDOR Survey Link: SORRY SURVEY IS NOW CLOSED, RESULTS WILL BE POSTED SOON.
The City of Marion’s Department of Planning and Development is seeking public input on future land use concepts that are being considered as part of the Central Corridor Brownfield Initiative. This community outreach effort coincides with funding provided through the U.S. EPA Brownfield program to identify and address adverse environmental impacts involving several properties within the target area.
The boundaries of the affected area include 8th Avenue to the north, 31st Street to the east, 5th Avenue to the south, and 10th Street to the west. Several sites within this target area have been subject to environmental investigations and evidence of hazardous substances and petroleum materials have been discovered. A common approach to mitigate exposure to these materials is by placing zoning or related land use controls on affected sites.
In this regard, the City has developed two alternative land use concepts and is encouraging citizens to provide input relative to selecting land use alternatives that best reflect the wishes of its citizens. In fact, to simplify the process of soliciting public input, the City has posted an Internet based questionnaire at the following web site [SURVEY SURVEY SITE IS NOW CLOSED]. This questionnaire provides a series of slides that illustrates specific areas within the corridor and asks participants to respond to questions. In addition, participants have an opportunity to provide comments if they so desire.
We encourage participants to use this on-line questionnaire because it is simple, quick and will be a significant contribution to transforming Marion’s gateway. The questionnaire is accessible to anyone now and will be live through January 2008.
Any questions concerning this questionnaire or the Marion Brownfields activities can be directed to Tom Treharne.
