City Council
Marion's City Council consists of six members and the Mayor. All Council Members, including the Mayor, vote on items before the Council. The Mayor presides at Council meetings. The Mayor does not have veto power.
The Council members as a whole can be reached by sending an email to council@cityofmarion.org Likewise, the Mayor can be reached by sending an email message to mayor@cityofmarion.org
Of the six members, two are elected at-large (the Mayor is also elected at-large) and four represent wards. Unlike many other cities, voters throughout the city vote for all Council Members. Ward Council Members must, however, live in the ward they represent. The Mayor and City Council are elected for four-year, overlapping terms.
Meet the Council:
- Mayor: Paul Rehn
2008 State of the City Address - Mayor Paul Rehn
2007 State of the City Address - Mayor John Nieland
Marion's City Council meets in regular session on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers (Marion City Hall, 1225 6th Ave.). A Pre-Council work session is held the Tuesday prior to each regular meeting. These Pre-Council sessions begin at 3 p.m. and are also held in the Council Chambers.
During each regular meeting, a time is provided for citizens to offer comments. Citizens who cannot attend the meetings may provide their comments and/or suggestions in written form. An archive of minutes and the latest agendas are provided online as well as any upcoming Public Hearings, recently adopted ordinances, and the City Council Action Plan.
