Central Corridor Phase III - 13th Street to 19th Street

This phase of the overall Central Corridor Project includes the reconstruction of 6th Avenue from 13th Street to 19th Street and includes the installation of a roundabout at the intersection of 6th Avenue and 15th Street.

This phase continues the implementation of a long term traffic management plan for Marion’s core, which is the balancing of traffic between 6th and 7th Avenues and creating a more pedestrian-friendly atmosphere in Uptown Marion. The Central Corridor Master Plan was adopted by City Council in 2009.

Physical improvements include new street, roundabout, sidewalk, trail, and utilities as well as new street lights and signage.

The project is a joint public/private partnership expected to cost approximately $2.1 million. This does not include property acquisitions or building demolitions. It is funded through general obligation bonds. Individual property owners will not be assessed.

  • Temporary construction easements and property acquisitions continually are being obtained
  • Building demolitions have occurred along 6th Avenue between 14th Street and 16th Street
  • Public utility work may begin in Fall 2017 with paving occurring in the Spring 2018
