Honor Guard

The Marion Fire Department Honor Guard was formed in 1999 and 2000. The membership consists of twelve members of the Fire Department. The members of the guard volunteer their time for training and for service. Funding is primarily from donations. 

The purpose of the Marion Fire Department Honor Guard is to provide formal representation of the Department at occasions of death and other occasions where the Chief deems it appropriate. The participation of the unit can be for any of the following death events:

• Off-duty death of an active fire fighter
• Death of a retired fire fighter
• Death of an immediate family member of an active fire fighter
• Death of a member of another fire department
• Death of a member of a public safety organization
• Death of a civic leader or member of local government
• Any other death event where the Chief feels that official representation is appropriate

The unit may serve in any of the following capacities:
• Attendance en mass
• Standing watch at visitation
• Pallbearers
• Bell ceremony
 • Flag folding
• Transportation of the body by engine
• Other capacities desired by the family, clergy, funeral director, and/or Chief
