These are some of the many forms of pesticides on the market of which you should be aware.
Although pesticides are very effective against unwanted pests, they are also harmful to animals and humans when improperly thrown away! Pesticides linger in the enviroment, infiltrating food and water supplies that could be later consumed by wildlife and people alike.
The best way to prevent pesticides from contaminating the environment is to avoid use of them at all, opting instead to use alternatives whenever possible. If use of a pesticide is absolutely necessary, only purchase what is needed.
Prior to disposing of a pesticide and its container, try to use the entire amount without overapplying the pesticide - if that is not possible, find someone who can finish the pesticide.
Before throwing away the container, triple-rinse it with water, applying the rinsing water in the same manner and in the same area as the pesticide.
Important things to make sure not to do with a pesticide and its container:
- do not bury them
- do not throw them in the trash without a proper cleaning (as explained above)
- do not pour excess pesticides on the ground
- do not dump them down the sewer
- do not pour them into a septic tank
