Historic Preservation Commission

Responsibilities - The Marion Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) was established by the City Council to oversee the development and mangement of Marion's Historic Preservation Program.  This program is focused on increasing public awareness of Marion's heritage; identifying historic and cultural resources; designating and recognizing significant local resources; and assisting in protecting, preserving and enhancing the best examples of Marion's past.

The Commission has several current ongoing projects:

Membership -  The five (5) members are residents of the City, each serve three (3) year terms on the Historic Preservation Commission. Members are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Ciyt Council.

Meetings - The Historic Preservation Commission, governed by the appointed members shown above, meets the second Tuesday of each month at City Hall, 1100 8th Avenue. Meetings begin at 7:30 a.m.  If you should have any questions or comments regarding the Historic Preservation Commission please contact David Hockett, Assistant Planning and Development Director at 319-743-6320.

The Salvage Barn - Architectural Materials Warehouse - The Salvage Barn [4] at the Iowa City Landfill collects and sells all types of salvaged architectural materials including both interior and exterior elements such as clapboard sideing, doors, light fixtures, flooring and trim.
