Citizens of the City of Marion and Marion Township have access to 911 for reporting emergencies. If the 911 call originates within the City of Marion, it will be answered by radio operators at the Marion Police Department. If the call originates in the Township area, the call will be answered by Linn County Sheriff’s radio operators.
Regardless of who answers the call, if the services of the Marion Fire Department are required, the dispatch information (location, type of call, etc.) will be given by radio paging or computer printer will be promptly relayed to the Fire Department. Decisions regarding the type of department response will be made by the Fire Department Shift Commander.
Medical emergencies and certain smaller fire alarms (e.g. car fire, carbon monoxide alarm, etc.) usually require the services of one engine company (two personnel and their apparatus). Structure fires and other larger incidents will draw upon all available personnel from both stations. Volunteer and off-duty career fire fighters carry pagers. In situations involving a structure fire, explosion, or other large-scale incident, these individuals will be paged to respond to assist at the emergency or to staff reserve apparatus at the fire stations in case of a second call.
So, if you have an emergency,Call 911
