June 30, 2008 (Monday)

  1. Planning Staff with the assistance of Riley Simpson, Phlat Earth Planning Consultants continue to work on the Zoning Code Update, staff anticipates completing the document late summer or early fall with additional public information meetings prior to final presentation to the City Council.  If you have any questions please contact David Hockett, Assistant Planning and Development Director.
  2. Summer brings about summer projects, please contact the Marion Buidling Department to ensure that your project can be completed.  Many projects require builidng permits and review by staff prior to construction.

June 23, 2008 (Monday)

  1. Debby Roth has been appointed to the fill the vacancy on the Zoning Board of Adjustment.

April 18, 2008 (Friday)

  1. Cody Crawford was appointed to the Marion Historic Preservation Commission, his term will expire 01-01-2011
  2. The Marion Zoning Board of Adjustment approved the request for a Watchman's Quarters located at the corner of Munier Road and 35th Street.

April 8, 2008 (Wednesday)

  1. The Marion Planning and Zoning Commission recommend apporval (6-3) of the Boyson Place Preliminary Plat, a 14 lot single family subdivision located south of Boyson Road and West of Geode Street on 6.03 acres of property at their regular April 8, 2008 commission meeting.
  2. The Marion Planning and Zoning Commission recieved the following items for the May 13, 2008 meeting.

    a.  Edgebrooke Seventh Addition Final Plat
    b.  Notthingham Hills Sixth Addition Final Plat
    c.  McGowan / Novak and Brannon Memorial's Rezoning C-1, Neighborhood Commercial to C-3, General Commercial.

April 2, 2008 (Tuesday)

  1. The Marion Zoning Board has a vacancy.  If you are a resident of Marion and are interested in serving on the Board, please contact Tom Treharne at 319-743-6320 for more information.  The Marion Zoning  Board of Adjustment meets as need on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:00PM.

April 1, 2008 (Monday)

  1. The Marion Planning and Zoning Commission has received a request to preliminary plat property south of Boyson Road and east of Alburnett Road.  - Boyson Place Preliminary Plat will be presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission on April 8, 2008 at 6:00PM at the Marion City Hall Council Chambers.  - Staff Contact:  Dave Hockett, AICP.
  2. The Marion Zoning Board of Adjustment has received a request for a variance to the side yard setback from Frank Reynolds for property located at 241 13th Street.  The request will be presented to the Board on April 15, 2008 at 7:00PM at the Marion City Hall Council Chambers - Staff Contact:  Kesha Kaiser.
  3. Marion HPC Historic Tour Web Page (NEW) - Lots of great information related to properties and districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places as well as vitural tours of these historic districts is now available.
  4. Previous Population Estimates are Availalble
    1. The 2006 US Census Estimates are available HERE, this is growth from April 2000 to July 2006
    2. Marion population growth data from April 2000 to July 2005, has been posted.
