Responsibilities - The Marion Planning and Zoning Commission makes recommendations to the City Council regarding rezonings, preliminary and final plats, site plans and certain ordinance changes.  The Commission review appliactions in accordance with approved regulations pertaining to all zoning districts within the City of Marion.  The Commission also gives reasonable consideration to the character of districts and their unique suitability for particular uses, with a view toward conserving the value of buildings, encouraging the most appropriate use of land throughout the City, and encouraging compliance with the approved comprehensive Plan.

Agendas, Minutes and Staff Reports - Current and past Planning and Zoning Commission agendas, minutes and staff reports are now available HERE.  Every effort is made to update the site as time allows.  If specific agendas or meeting minutes are not available online please contact the Planning and Development Department.

Applications - At this time the various applications related to the Planning and Zoning Commission activities are not available online.  Please contact David Hockett, Assistant Planning and Development Director at 319-743-6320 with any questions or comments regarding a request before the Commission.

Membership - The nine (9) members, residents of the City , each serve five year terms on the Planning and Zoning Commission.  Members are appointed by teh Mayor and approved by the City Council.

Meetings - The Planning and Zoning Commission, governed by the appointed members shown above, meet the second Tuesday of each month at the Marion City Hall, 1225 6th Avenue.  Meetings begin at 6:00Pm or on call of the Chairperson if a special meeting is necessary.  The presences of five (5) members is necessary to constitute a quorem.
