Zoning Board of Adjustment
Responsibilities - The Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) considers and rules on all variance requests submitted to the City. A variance request may be granted if a applicant is aggrieved by an adverse decision because the City's zoning ordinance creates an unwarranted hardship or practical difficulty. In addition the Board may hear and decide appeals where it is alleged there is an error in any order, requirement, decision or determination made by the Planning and Development Director in the enforcement of the City Zoning Ordinance.
Agendas and Minutes - The past and present Zoning Board of Adjustment Agendas and Meeting Minutes are now available. Every effort will be made to update the site as soon as possible, if an agenda or set of minutes are not available for a specific meeting please feel free to contact the Planning and Development Department.
Application - At this time the Zoning Board of Adjustment application is not available online. Please contact David Hockett, Assistant Planning and Development Director at 319-743-6320 with any questions or concerns regarding a request before the Board.
Membership - The five (5) members, residents of the City, each serve five year terms on the Board of Adjustment. Members are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.

- Charles Kent (Chairperson), term expires 12-31-08
- Debby Roth, term expires 12-31-11
- Gordon Gibson (Secretary), term expires 12-31-11
- Ron Van Note, term expires 12-31-12
Meetings - The Zoning Board of Adjustment, governed by the appointed members shown above, meets the third Tuesday of each month at City Hall, 1225 6th Avenue. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. Please note that this Board meets only on an "as needed" basis and, therefore, may not meet each month at the scheduled time. The presence of three (3) members is necessary to constitute a quorum.
