Public Services

March 2008

Street Division
The snow has let up and now the extreme winters damage to the street is visible as well as all the sand that we now need to sweep up.  We got the street sweepers out as soon as snow was gone from the curbs.  It is going to take some time to get all the material up.   Between the two units they swept 398 lane miles.  We used 100 ton or about $6000 in cold patch material in March.  It does not stay in place but is all we can do until weather warms and other materials become available.
Also in March:
·         Serious issues on Winslow  & Lucore Roads that will be handled by Engineering
·         Handled 43 citizen requests
·         Minor signal work for Mt. Vernon & Hiawatha

·         Assisted with installation of fiber optic conduit at Lowe Park

2.      Recycling                164.19 ton
The reduction rate was 46% in March.  There were 5,383 extra $1.25 tagged bags.  The drop-off site received 7.54 tons of recycling and 2.15 tons of corrugated cardboard. 3.56 ton of glass was hauled out to vendor.  1530 vehicles were recorded coming to the recycle center during March.  Compost was turned, brush was hauled out and operators cleaned and waxed plows that they used during storms.  The addresses have been collected and labels made for McGowan Blvd Reconstruction.  Supervisor spent 14 hours checking routes and wrote over 50 violations.  He also ran Wednesday and Friday routes.  There has been so much growth in the north side the collection on those days is greatly off balance.  30 special pick- ups were done and 19 citizen requests were handled.
