The City Council of the City of Marion, Linn County, Iowa met in regular session, Thursday, July 2, 2009, at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall with Mayor Rehn presiding and the following council members present:  Sprague, Lammers, and Glew.  Absent:  Adamson, Spinks, and Pazour.

 

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Mayor Rehn noted that Ord. No. 09-08, amending Section 175 of the Code of Ordinances related to constructing sidewalks in new subdivisions and establishing a timeline for installation of sidewalks and trails in Marion, will be removed from tonight’s agenda.

The City Council of the City of Marion, Linn County, Iowa met in special session, Thursday, June 25, 2009, at 5:16 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall with Mayor Rehn presiding and the following council members present:  Sprague, Lammers, Spinks, Pazour, and Glew.  Absent:  Adamson.

 

Moved by Lammers, seconded by Pazour to approve bills as presented in the amount of $326,443.49.  All in favor, motion carried.

Resolution No. 20485 approving hotel-motel fund allocations for FY 09-10 was read by Pazour.  Moved by Pazour, seconded by Lammers to approve Res. No. 20485.  Council discussed the hotel-motel allocations.  Jim McPartland, representing the Greater Cedar Rapids Open, explained their request for funding.

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Council member Adamson arrived at 7:02.

 

Moved by Lammers, seconded by Pazour to approve the Consent Calendar, as presented:

The City Council of the City of Marion, Linn County, Iowa met in regular session, Thursday, June 4, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall with Mayor pro tem Lammers presiding and the following council members present:  Sprague, Adamson, Spinks, Pazour, and Glew.  Absent:  Mayor Rehn.

 

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Moved by Spinks, seconded by Sprague to approve the Consent Calendar, as presented, with the exception of Res. No. 20438, Accepting the Permanent Storm Sewer Easement Agreement with Kings Material, Inc. regarding the 2009 5th Avenue/16th Street Storm Sewer Project:

Motion to approve the minutes of the May 19, 21 and 28, 2009 City Council meetings.

The City Council of the City of Marion, Linn County, Iowa met in special session, Thursday, May 28, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall with Mayor Rehn presiding and the following council members present:  Sprague, Lammers, Pazour, and Glew.  Absent:  Adamson and Spinks.

 

Mayor Rehn opened the public hearing regarding the FY 08-09 budget amendment.  No comments, written or verbal, were received.  Mayor Rehn declared the public hearing closed.


Resolution No. 20425 approving the FY 08-09 budget amendment was read by Lammers.  Moved by Lammers, seconded by Pazour to approve Res. No. 20245.  All in favor, motion carried.

The City Council of the City of Marion, Linn County, Iowa met in regular session, Thursday, May 21, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall with Mayor Rehn presiding and the following council members present:  Adamson, Lammers, Spinks, Pazour, and Glew.  Absent:  Sprague.

 

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Parks Director Richard Fox introduced Marci Wright and Dennis Frevert representing the Marion Arts Council.  Mr. Frevert and Ms. Wright made a presentation to Council regarding the activities of the Marion Arts Council.

Moved by Lammers, seconded by Pazour to receive and file letter of resignation from the Corridor MPO from Kim McCarty.  Mayor Rehn asked anyone interested in filling this vacancy to contact him.  All in favor, motion carried.

The City Council of the City of Marion, Linn County, Iowa met in regular session, Thursday, May 7, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall with Mayor Rehn presiding and the following council members present:  Lammers, Spinks, Pazour, and Glew.  Absent:  Sprague and Adamson.

 

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Mayor Rehn read a proclamation for Police Officers Memorial Day.  Mayor Rehn presented the proclamation to Sergeant Scott Elam.

The City Council of the City of Marion, Linn County, Iowa met in special session, Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at 5:15 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall with Mayor Rehn presiding and the following council members present:  Sprague, Adamson, Lammers, Spinks, and Pazour.  Absent:  Glew.

 

Mayor Rehn opened the public hearing on the FY 09-10 budget.  No comments, written or verbal, were received.  Mayor Rehn declared the public hearing closed.

Resolution No. 20367 approving the FY 09-10 budget was read by Lammers.  Moved by Lammers, seconded by Pazour to approve Res. No. 20367.  Council Member Spinks asked about changes to the budget.  City Manager Lon Pluckhahn presented the staff report.  All in favor, motion carried.

Resolution No. 20368 approving outdoor permit for May 2, 2009 for Advanced Business Concepts, LLC, dba Pitcher’s, 620 Lindale Drive – Suite #1, was read  by Pazour.  Moved by Pazour, seconded by Sprague to approve Res. No. 20368.  Scott Davidson, 920 Valleyview Drive, representing Pitcher’s, was present to answer questions.  All in favor, motion carried.

Moved by Adamson, seconded by Pazour to approve noise waiver/hold harmless for May 2, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. (Pitcher’s, 620 Lindale Drive).  All in favor, motion carried.

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Mary Meisterling, Strategic Account Manager for Alliant Energy, was present regarding Alliant Energy’s Branching Out Program.  Ms. Meisterling presented a check for $2,500 from the Branching Out Program to Mayor Rehn.  Mayor Rehn presented the check to Scott Hansen, Chairmen of the Tree Board.

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Marion Firefighter’s Association President Ron French presented a fire extinguisher training simulator to the Fire Department from the Marion Firefighter’s Association.  Assistant Fire Chief Rick Boots thanked the Association for the donation.  Assistant Chief Boots showed a power point on how the training simulator works.  Mayor Rehn thanked the Firefighter’s Association for their donation.
