 <title>MFD Career Application Procedures</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;Individuals desiring to take the Marion Fire Department entrance test must follow a designated procedure. Official notification of testing opportunities will be advertised in the Cedar Rapids Gazette and Des Moines Register. Every effort will be made to advertise in the Marion Fire Department website as well.&amp;nbsp;Prospective candidates must adhere to the following process:
&lt;ol&gt;
&lt;li&gt;After the testing date has been officially advertised, applications to take the test must be picked up at Marion City Hall at 1100 8&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; Avenue.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Complete the application and return it to Marion City Hall prior to the advertised deadline. &lt;strong&gt;INCOMPLETE OR INACCURATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Applicants will be notified by letter regarding the time and date of the examinations.&lt;/li&gt;

 <title>Physical Agility &amp; Written Entrance Test Description</title>

 <description>&lt;h1&gt;&lt;p&gt;Applicants wanting to be a career fire fighter with the Marion Fire Department must successfully complete the following steps:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/h1&gt;
&lt;ol&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Application submittal (See Application Procedure on this website)&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Written examination&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;p&gt;Physical agility examination&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Interview with MFD administrative staff&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Background check&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Physical examination&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ol&gt;
&lt;h2&gt;WRITTEN EXAMINATION&lt;/h2&gt;
A multiple choice written examination is administered by the Marion Civil Service Commission.&amp;nbsp; The test is purchased from a testing agency.&amp;nbsp; Successful completion of the test is required in order to take the physical agility test.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;h2&gt;PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST&lt;/h2&gt;
The physical agility test is offered immediately after the written examination for those who pass the examination.&amp;nbsp; It is important that you dress in clothes and shoes that would be comfortable to exercise in.&amp;nbsp; Applicants participating in the physical agility test will wear a fire coat, helmet, gloves, and SCBA backpack with steel bottle during the test.&amp;nbsp; These items will be provided by the Department.&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;h4&gt;PREPARING FOR THE PHYSICAL AGILITY EXAMINATION&lt;/h4&gt;
This physical agility examination is more difficult than it appears.&amp;nbsp; The chances of passing the examination will be greatly increased if adequate preparatory training has been undertaken.&amp;nbsp; Physical training should emphasize cardio-respiratory fitness.&amp;nbsp; Strength, muscular endurance, and proper lifting techniques should be high priority.&amp;nbsp; Practice makes perfect. &lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;DESCRIPTION OF THE PHYSICAL AGILITY EXAMINATION&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
