Lowe Park and the Parks and Recreation Department will be closed November 27 and 28 in observance of Thanksgiving.

Witwer Dining site at Lowe Park will also be closed those two day.

DNR Programs

Fishing Basics Tuesday, June 10 @ Thomas Park

9:00AM--11:00AM Open to students ages 9-16

This program will cover how to cast a fishing rod and some of the ways to catch fish. We will provide the poles and bait-- all you need to do is show up. With some luck we will learn about the fish caught by the group and will learn skills like holding a fish and how to release a fish.

Cost: $3.00 per student. Call Marion Parks and Rec to register at 377-4846

Senior Meal Reservations

Seniors gather Monday through Friday
to play cards, play bingo and dance. A
delicious meal is served daily at 11:30
am for $2.75.

Phone 377-3221 by 11 am
the previous day to make reservations. If you want to eat on Monday you must call the Friday before.

The Arts and Envirnomental Center is currently Located at 4500 N10th Street.

The 7700 sq ft building is home to the Marion Parks and Recreation Office, Senior Dining Site, and Community Center.

Park Pavilions & Lowe Meeting Rooms

All Reservations need to be made in person. We accept cash or checks only.

Park Pavilion Rentals

Park pavilion reservations are completed in person at the Parks and Recreation Office. We do not make reservations over the phone. You may call the office, 377-4846,
to check availability.

Pavilions may be reserved for the dates beween May 1 and Sept. 30. Beer permits are required, no additional
charge. Beer in cans only. No kegs or bottles allowed. No
hard liquor.

Rental hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or 4 to 10 p.m. All
pavilions feature electricity, running water and grills.

Park Regulations

All parks close at 10 p.m. by City Ordinance, all pets must be kept on a leash in all park areas (including walking trails) and are not allowed in pavilions or within 100 feet of food vendors, playground equipment, ball fields, and swimming pool. Pet owners are encouraged to keep pets home during large community functions. Pet owners are required to pick up and properly dispose of their pet's waste.

Vandalism

Wouldn't you like to see the parks in your neighborhood free of destruction and misuse? Countless acts of vandalism occur each year to our park facilities and equipment. We are asking for your help to stop this. If you see anyone abusing the equipment in the city parks, please call the Police Department at 377-1511 or the Parks and Recreation Department at 377-4846. Together we can keep our parks looking their best!

Adopt-A-Tree

The Marion Parks and Recreation Department invite tree lovers to adopt a tree in one of the many city parks. Both groups and individuals can adopt a tree.

2008 Activities

The 2008 Activities brochure will be available in January.

The registration form should be used for any general recreational activity where registration is NOT done directly with the instructor, including swimming lessons. The form available here is identical to the one distributed in the 2008 brochure and can be printed as many times as necessary. Additional brochures are also available at the Parks and Recreation Office, 4500 N Tenth Street, Lowe Park.

Fees are payable at the time of registration. Checks should be made out to the Marion Parks and Recreation Department. No credit cards will be accepted. A late fee of $5 per individual program will be added if you wait until after the registration deadline. Refunds will be given to anyone who withdraws from an activity (excluding swimming lessons) prior to the start of the event, however, a minimum $5 administration fee will be charged. No refunds will be given after an activity has begun.

Marion's Park and Recreation Department is responsible for 16 city parks, Oak Shade Cemetery, the Lowe Park Arts and Environment Center, Willowood Pool and the Boyson Hiking-Biking Trail.

The department also provides an array of recreational and cultural opportunities throughout the year for all age groups. Each year, typically in early spring, a brochure of programs and activities is published and distributed throughout the community. In addition, the Parks & Recreation Department administers the local Adopt-A-Tree program.
