The Marion Water Department's Board of Trustees will hold a Public Hearing on a proposal to increase the water rate for both Public Water Supply permits ID #5751035(Marion residents) and ID #5751040 (Glenbrook Cove Subdivision area).

Marion residents and commercial customers will see a $1.00 per month increase on the flat monthly service charge which includes 300 cubic feet of water. The monthly service charge will increase from $6.75 to $7.75 per month.

Commercial and industrial accounts with 1.5” meter size and larger will have a 2% increase on their flat rate.

Residents in the Glenbrook Cove Subdivision will have a $1.50 per month increase on the flat monthly service charge which includes 300 cubic of water as well as a 3% increase on their inclining water rate.

These increases are planned to go into effect on April 3, 2015.

The Public Hearing will be held at 5:15 PM, March 10, 2015, in City Hall.

The Marion Water Department has completed the construction of Well #7 and installed two new Silurian wells this year to meet the water demands of the city’s increasing population.  The department is paying down a $2.55 Million loan from the State of Iowa Revolving loan fund.  The additional revenue received from the above rate increases will provide funding for new water mains, painting elevated water storage tanks and installing new meters with automatic radio read technology for the entire community.

Written comments may be addressed to the Water Department General Manager, 1225 Sixth Avenue, Suite 150, Marion, IA  52302, and will be recognized during the hearing.
