The Marion Fire Department (MFD) takes pride and ownership in serving our community by protecting life and property through rapid response, community risk reduction, and emergency preparedness. Whether the emergency is fire, illness, trauma, hazardous material release or special rescue, MFD maintains a trained staff and equipped vehicles to meet this responsibility.
Fire Suppression
We provide fire suppression services to protect the 41,000+ residents of the City of Marion and Marion Township and their property. Our combination department includes both professional and volunteer firefighters serving from three fire stations with two engines and one tower ladder operating front-line.
Emergency Medical and Related Services
The Marion Fire Department provides advanced (paramedic) emergency medical services to anybody in the City of Marion and Marion Township who dials "911" to request an ambulance or physical assistance. Each apparatus is staffed daily with a minimum of one paramedic and two EMTs. The Marion Fire Department responded to over 4,900+ calls in 2022 and roughly 85% of those calls involved emergency medical services.
Public Education: Fire Safety for Children and Adults
Part of our mission includes taking proactive steps to prevent fires before they occur through public education. We make great efforts to be an active part of our community by giving citizens the opportunity to learn more about the department, what it does and the men and women who do it through fun and educational interactions. We provide numerous public safety programs with the goal of reducing fires, accidents and injuries.
Inspections: Commercial Properties and Public Spaces
Preventing fires is just as important as fighting them. At the Marion Fire Department, that philosophy is front and center within the Fire Prevention Bureau, which administers permits and inspections in regard to fire prevention. The personnel within the Prevention Bureau interact with local businesses, architects and contractors to ensure fire and life safety within the City of Marion and compliance with fire codes. This interaction encompasses commercial plans review, inspections, and fire investigations. The Marion Fire Department is committed to ensuring safety by maintaining high standards of safety through its inspections of commercial properties, new buildings and public spaces.
We are honored and proud to serve you.
