Garbage, recycling and yard waste will not be collected on Thanksgiving Day and pick-up will be delayed by a day for both Thursday and Friday routes. The final day for curbside yard waste collection in 2024 will be Dec. 13.

This fire was determined to be accidental, caused by inappropriately stored materials on a countertop stove. Because this building had both an alarm system and a sprinkler system, the fire was rapidly detected and contained, and loss was limited.

Community-wide trick-or-treating in Marion takes place on Halloween. There is no set start time but trick-or-treating should conclude by 8 p.m. Participating residents should turn on their porch lights when they are ready to greet trick-or-treaters and turn them off when finished.

The Falliday Market, hosted by the Marion Parks and Recreation Department, returns to the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center (4500 N 10th Street, Marion, IA 52302) on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024. Doors open at 9 a.m. and the market will go until 2 p.m.
