Red Cedar Chamber Music: Production Floor Performance at Marion City Hall
Red Cedar Chamber Music presents music from Mostly Folk Inspired featuring Jan Boland (flute), John Dowdall (guitar), Miera Kim (violin) and Carey Bostian (cello).
Folk music touches us all and reminds us of our roots as a nation. Composers understand this — and when they draw from this rich tradition, wonderful ‘serious’ music happens! Mostly Folk Inspired includes works by Geminiani, Beaser and Kolosko that revel in the dynamic rhythms and poignant melodies of Klezmer, Hungarian, Celtic and Appalachian music.
The musicians pepper the performance with lively commentary and musical examples designed to entertain and educate audience members about these special pieces.
This free performance is sponsored by the City of Marion, Farmers State Bank and the Giacoletto Foundation.
This is Red Cedar Chamber Music's 20th Anniversary Season. Flutist Jan Boland and guitarist John Dowdall — Red Cedar’s Core Ensemble — are making music all season long with the College Street Duo, violinist Miera Kim and cellist Carey Bostian. Celebrate with us the last wildly-successful 20 years, and Jan and John’s final season as founders and directors of this exemplary organization.
Looking ahead, we hope you can join us for the post-concert reception after this season's final concert on April 30, 2016 when Red Cedar Chamber Music welcomes longtime friends and extraordinary musicians Miera Kim and Carey Bostian as incoming core ensemble and directors of Red Cedar Chamber Music beginning in July, 2016.
