Home MenuWard 2 - Grant Harper
Grant Harper was appointed to fill an At-Large vacancy on Marion City Council in May 2020. Due to ward boundary line changes related to the 2020 Census, Grant Harper ran for and was elected in Nov. 2023 to serve as the Ward 2 representative for two years.
Mr. Harper and his family have been residents of Marion for over 40 years. His two sons are K-12 graduates of Linn-Mar Community Schools.
Harper was a science educator and coach at Linn-Mar High School, thereafter working for Iowa Electric in Cedar Rapids, and Pearson Education in Iowa City, with experience in emergency planning, business continuity, quality management, information security, and project management.
Harper was one of the founding fathers of Marion’s Boy Scout Troop 360, and upon his retirement in 2017, that experience motivated him to again seek a civic role which ultimately led him to run for City Council in November 2019. Post-election, he served on Marion’s Planning and Zoning Commission prior to appointment to the city council.
Harper believes Marion’s thriving residential and business environment and numerous community cultural events make Marion “the place to be.” He’ll use his background to assess community development opportunities in terms of project planning, risk assessment, execution, and cost-control, keeping such activities in balance with improvements to existing infrastructure and services.
