In 2013, the voters of Marion approved an extension of the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST). This will be in effect until June 30, 2024. The Local Option Sales Tax Oversight Committee is responsible for reviewing the use of LOST funds to ensure they have been spent correctly.

Projects completed using 2013 LOST funding include numerous street projects (13th Street - 8th Avenue to 10th Avenue, 29th Avenue widening, 35th Street reconstruction, Winslow Road reconstruction), as well as Lowe Park's inclusive playground, Waldo's Rock Park, Butterfield Skate Park, Boyson Trail lighting and Donnelly Park Trail bridge replacement. Equipment purchases for the Fire Department include an aerial truck, fire pumper and replacement of self-contained breathing apparatus systems.
