The Marion Fire Department Honor Guard consists of twelve Fire Department members who volunteer their time for training and service. The Honor Guard provides formal representation of the Department at occasions of death and other occasions deemed appropriate by the Chief. The unit can be requested to participate in any of the following death events:

• Line of duty deaths
• Off-duty death of an active fire fighter
• Death of a retired fire fighter
• Death of an immediate family member of an active fire fighter
• Death of a member of another fire department
• Death of a member of a public safety organization
• Death of a civic leader or member of local government
• Any other death event where the Chief feels that official representation is appropriate

The unit may also serve in any of the following capacities:

• Attendance en mass
• Standing watch at visitation
• Pallbearers
• Bell ceremony
• Flag folding
• Transportation of the body by engine
• Other capacities desired by the family, clergy, funeral director, and/or Chief

The Marion Fire Department Honor Guard is primarily funded from donations.
