City Maintenace workerThis division of the Public Services Department is responsible for maintenance and repairs to the sanitary sewer system and the city’s storm water network. Scheduled maintenance includes cleaning and flushing of the collection systems, as well as infrastructure repair and maintenance. The division is also responsible for the maintenance of City waterways and detention basins.

Maintenance of the sanitary sewer system is performed throughout the year and includes scheduled cleaning of sanitary sewer lines which is typically performed with a high pressure water nozzle or mechanical router.

The City is responsible for the maintenance of the sanitary mains that are typically located in the street.  Maintenance of private service lines that connect into the main are the responsibility of the property owner.


Sewer Backups

In the event where a City of Marion resident experiences a sanitary sewer backup, they may contact the Public Services Department at 319-377-6367. Department staff will assist in verifying the source of the sanitary backup cleaning and inspecting the City main for potential issues. The resident is responsible for any backups or problems that occur from the City sewer main to the dwelling.
