Gallery Exhibits & Receptions
Approximately every eight weeks a new exhibit is displayed in the gallery featuring works by local and regional Iowa artists. This is a great opportunity for the citizens of Marion and visitors to enjoy a variety of quality works of art. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.–4 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 1–3 p.m.
An artist reception is held for each exhibit on a weekday night during the exhibit. Visitors meet the featured artists, hear them discuss their work and enjoy light refreshments. One wall in the gallery is dedicated to presenting artwork of students from local Marion schools. A different school is featured each month from October through May.
In addition to the featured work, most of the Marion Arts Council's permanent collection is on display throughout the Lowe Park building. This is a great opportunity to view the work of several talented artists at once.
Educational and entertaining workshops have been provided by the Marion Arts Council since its inception in 1976. Some workshops are designed for adult education, some for children and some for family activities. The fees for workshops are typically minimal, covering material and instructor costs.
Instructors of the fine arts who are interested in leading workshops are encouraged to contact the Marion Arts Council via email or by calling (319) 447-3590.
