Please keep your yards mowed. It is a violation of the City Code to have any plants, grass or weeds growing uncultivated and out of control with a height of eight inches or more. Five days is allowed following a mailed notice to eliminate the violations. Otherwise the City will mow it and assess cost against the property for collection in the same manner as property tax. An administrative fee of $25 will also be added.

Please keep your sidewalks clear of snow and ice. 

141.03 REMOVAL OF SNOW, ICE AND ACCUMULATIONS. It is the responsibility of the abutting property owners to remove snow, ice and accumulations promptly from sidewalks. If a property owner does not remove snow, ice or accumulations within 36 hours after the accumulation, the City may do so and assess the costs against the property owner for collection in the same manner as a property tax. With a goal to be the healthiest city in the state and a vision to be the best place in Iowa to raise a family, the City of Marion has made the commitment to smoke-free, nicotine-free and tobacco-free parks and trails.

Effective, August 1, 2015, smoking or the use of tobacco, nicotine products, and vaporizers will not be allowed in City parks or trails. Violators will be subject to a $50 fine. 

Alcohol permits are required for Lowe Park and Thomas Park Safe Room facility rentals if you intend to serve alcohol at your function. Requests are reviewed by the Marion Park Board with a $25 non-refundable application fee. No kegs or hard liquor are permitted.

For park pavilion rentals, kegs or hard liquor are not permitted per City Ordinance.

Here’s the scoop... Dogs and their owners are welcome in many of our parks—as long as the pets are on a leash at all times and owners clean up after their animals. We can’t sidestep the issue of pet waste. Out of courtesy to others using the parks, pet owners must take responsibility and help to keep our parks clean. Please bring a bag with you when you enjoy the parks with your four-legged friends. 

117-14 Animals in parks and on golf courses
No animal shall be allowed in any City park, pavilion, playground, food vendor or ball field in a City park or golf course unless it is attached to a leash not more than six feet in length and of sufficient strength to restrain the animal when the leash is held by a person capable of restraining and controlling the animal. No animal, except for service animals, shall be allowed in any City pool or splash pad, except at such times and under such conditions as specified by the Parks Department. Designated dog parks are exempt from these provisions. The owner of or anyone harboring any animal in violation of this section shall be fined in accordance with § 117-21 of this article. Nothing in this section is intended to prevent the City or any private entity from prohibiting animals at events.
