Marion Parks & Rec Foundation Selling Commemorative Bricks for Central Plaza Project
Community members have an opportunity to support the campaign and celebrate their connection to Uptown Marion by purchasing commemorative bricks. The bricks, available for $100 each, will be a permanent feature prominently displayed around the depot pavilion and fire pits in the plaza.

Marion Fire Department Seeks Volunteers for New Community Emergency Response Team
Are you passionate about service and interested in helping reduce the impacts of emergencies and disasters? The Marion Fire Department is seeking 15 volunteers to establish a new Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) for Marion. Applications are being accepted now through July 31, 2024.

Hanna Park Ribbon Cutting Set for July 15
Hanna Park is one of Marion’s oldest parks. With aging amenities and the loss of more than 100 trees in the 2020 derecho, the Marion Parks and Recreation Department has made several significant investments at Hanna Park.

City Offices to Close in Observance of Independence Day
Garbage, recycling and yard waste collection will be delayed by one day for Thursday and Friday routes. Collection will take place on Friday and Saturday instead.

Marion Residents Reminded of Rules Surrounding Consumer Fireworks Usage
As Independence Day approaches, Marion residents are reminded to be aware of the rules surrounding the purchase and use of consumer-grade fireworks within city limits. This time of year, the use of fireworks is only allowed in Marion on July 4 from noon-11 p.m.

Representatives of Marion Travel to Washington, D.C., Seeking Support for Tower Terrace Road Project
This week, Marion representatives made their way to Washington, D.C., to lobby for federal grant funding on behalf of the cities of Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha, Robins and Marion. The Marion delegation was seeking support for the remaining segments of Tower Terrace Road to be built.

Marion Pool to Reopen on Tuesday, June 11
On Tuesday, June 11, and for the remainder of the week, lap swim will be offered from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and open swim will occur from 1-4 p.m. The pool will close at 4 p.m. this Tuesday through Friday for evening swim lessons.

Marion Pool Closed Due to Broken Glass
The Marion Municipal Pool is closed due to broken glass in the pool which was caused by a broken light. The pool must be drained and refilled. It will be closed through the weekend and a status update will be provided on Monday morning.

June 12 Workshop Scheduled to Gather Input for Marion's Comprehensive Plan
The City of Marion and RDG Planning and Design are hosting a workshop on Wednesday, June 12, to help inform an update to the City’s Comprehensive Plan - Marion 2045: A Plan to Reach New Heights. The consultant and City staff will be available from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and again from 4-6 p.m. that day.
