Central Corridor Phase III - 13th Street to 19th Street
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This phase of the overall Central Corridor Project includes the reconstruction of 6th Avenue from 13th Street to 19th Street and includes the installation of a roundabout at the intersection of 6th Avenue and 15th Street.
This phase continues the implementation of a long term traffic management plan for Marion’s core, which is the balancing of traffic between 6th and 7th Avenues and creating a more pedestrian-friendly atmosphere in Uptown Marion. The Central Corridor Master Plan was adopted by City Council in 2009.
Physical improvements include new street, roundabout, sidewalk, trail, and utilities as well as new street lights and signage.
The project is a joint public/private partnership expected to cost approximately $2.1 million. This does not include property acquisitions or building demolitions. It is funded through general obligation bonds. Individual property owners will not be assessed.
PROGRESS UPDATE:
15th Street is closed from just south of 7th Avenue to just north of the 5th Avenue and 15th Street intersection. The Contractor has completed 21% of the project. The contractor has paved large portions of the roundabout and 15th Street both north adn south of the roundabout.
