The Marion Public Library will extend hours in the month of September in celebration of National Library Card Sign-up Month. The Library will open on at 8 a.m. on weekdays throughout the month.

Boys & Girls Clubs, in conjunction with the Marion Youth Coalition, are hosting an open house to introduce the community to the Marion Youth Center on Monday, Sept. 9 from 4:30–6:30 p.m. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 4:45 p.m.

The City of Marion will host a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 4 p.m. to celebrate the completion and official opening of the community’s first inclusive playground. Located at the south entrance to Lowe Park, 4401 Irish Dr., the playground is designed for children of all abilities.

The Marion Civil Rights Commission envisions a community that is welcoming, inclusive and preserves the personal dignity of all people. On Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m., the commission will celebrate its fifth anniversary in the Hickory Room at Lowe Park, 4500 N. 10th Street.

The City of Marion is excited to partner with the Uptown Marion District to present its first Dog Fashion Show on Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. This unique event will occur in conjunction with Uptown Fall Fest, which offers shopping and entertainment in Uptown Marion from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The semi-annual installment of property and mobile home tax statements were mailed this week. The first half of property taxes are due September 1. To make payment more convenient, several payment options are available. Property taxes can be paid online, by mail, in person, or over the phone.

The southbound lane of Central Avenue/Alburnett Rd will be closed during Stage 1. Temporary traffic signals will allow alternating northbound and southbound traffic to drive through the construction zone using the northbound lane and temporary pavement.

The City of Marion is pleased to welcome 2016 Iowa Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Johnny Rogers, to Lowe Park this Saturday, Aug. 3. Rogers and his full band will perform two highly-acclaimed shows in one night at the Klopfenstein Amphitheater starting at 7 p.m.
