Marion Public Library Announces Extended Access Hours for September
The Marion Public Library will extend hours in the month of September in celebration of National Library Card Sign-up Month. The Library will open on at 8 a.m. on weekdays throughout the month.

Open House and Ribbon Cutting Planned for Marion Youth Center
Boys & Girls Clubs, in conjunction with the Marion Youth Coalition, are hosting an open house to introduce the community to the Marion Youth Center on Monday, Sept. 9 from 4:30–6:30 p.m. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 4:45 p.m.

Ribbon Cutting set to Celebrate Completion of Inclusive Playground at Lowe Park
The City of Marion will host a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 4 p.m. to celebrate the completion and official opening of the community’s first inclusive playground. Located at the south entrance to Lowe Park, 4401 Irish Dr., the playground is designed for children of all abilities.

Marion Civil Rights Commission to Celebrate its 5th Anniversary
The Marion Civil Rights Commission envisions a community that is welcoming, inclusive and preserves the personal dignity of all people. On Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m., the commission will celebrate its fifth anniversary in the Hickory Room at Lowe Park, 4500 N. 10th Street.

Dog Fashion Show happening in the Uptown Artway on Sept. 7
The City of Marion is excited to partner with the Uptown Marion District to present its first Dog Fashion Show on Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. This unique event will occur in conjunction with Uptown Fall Fest, which offers shopping and entertainment in Uptown Marion from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Public Reception Planned to Introduce Candidates for Marion Police Chief
Four candidates, two internal and two external, are interviewing to lead the department of 46 sworn officers and six civilian employees. Open house attendees are encouraged to meet the candidates and ask them questions.

Linn County Property Tax Statements in Mailboxes
The semi-annual installment of property and mobile home tax statements were mailed this week. The first half of property taxes are due September 1. To make payment more convenient, several payment options are available. Property taxes can be paid online, by mail, in person, or over the phone.

The 2800 block (28th to 29th Avenues) of 31st Street will be under construction for the next month.

ROAD CONSTRUCTION: Box Culvert Installation at Central Avenue North of Indian Creek
The southbound lane of Central Avenue/Alburnett Rd will be closed during Stage 1. Temporary traffic signals will allow alternating northbound and southbound traffic to drive through the construction zone using the northbound lane and temporary pavement.

Gold Revere to perform in the Uptown Artway on August 9
Recent Linn-Mar High School graduates Akash Gururaja and Ian Crumley began Gold Revere 2017 as an experimental summer project. Combining their classical training in piano, violin and vocal with their love for hip-hop/R&B, Gold Revere has created a unique sound.

The Johnny Rogers Show playing Lowe Park this Saturday
The City of Marion is pleased to welcome 2016 Iowa Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Johnny Rogers, to Lowe Park this Saturday, Aug. 3. Rogers and his full band will perform two highly-acclaimed shows in one night at the Klopfenstein Amphitheater starting at 7 p.m.

The Fez to play Klopfenstein Amphitheater at Lowe Park on September 12
Eastern Iowa’s own Steely Dan tribute band, The Fez, is set to take the stage at Klopfenstein Amphitheater at Lowe Park (4500 N. 10th Street, Marion). The free concert will take place on Thursday, Sept. 12 starting at 6 p.m.
