The Marion Fire Department keeps very busy during the month of October educating area youth on fire safety. They visited about 620 kindergarten students, 560 first graders and 621 third graders during Fire Prevention Week alone.

In an effort to improve firefighting skills, the Marion Fire Department will be conducting a live house burn on Saturday, Oct.6. This training will take place at 880 2nd Street. The estimated training times are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 4 Abode Construction will begin the 2018 Storm Sewer Project along 27th Street from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue. This project includes adding storm sewer and subdrain along 27th Street to improve storm drainage in the area.

Each week, for four weeks, a different class will be offered free of charge at the Klopfenstein Amphitheater at Lowe Park. Classes will take place every Tuesday evening from 6-7 p.m. during the month of September.

On September 4, Linn County Public Health will open enrollment for the Wood-Burning Change-Out Program – a voluntary program to improve air quality by providing vouchers to eligible homeowners to remove and replace old, non-certified wood appliances with cleaner burning, EPA-certified appliances.
