Trick-or-Treat at City Hall and Marion Public Library
Visit City Hall from 3-5 p.m. on Halloween and collect candy and other treats from staff on both floors at City Hall. Marion Public Library will provide treats at each of the desks during normal business hours on Halloween.

School Bus Safety Reminders
Several studies have shown that on average someone drives through a bus stop sign on every school bus once a day. If you think of that happening once per day to every school bus, there is a lot of potential for a child being hit by a car. A major cause of this is distracted driving.

Water Main Relay happening near 10th Avenue/24th Street
10th Avenue will be reduced to one lane during the day and vehicles need to yield to the oncoming traffic. Expect some travel delays.

Strnad Achieves Certified Elected Municipal Official Designation
Marion City Council Member Randy Strnad has been awarded the Certified Elected Municipal Official (CEMO) designation in 2019. The designation was established by the Iowa League of Cities as a way to recognize elected officials who commit to continuing their professional development while in office.

ROAD CLOSURE: Highway 13 and Hennessey Parkway Median

Marion Breaks Ground on New Fire Station/Headquarters
Population and geographic growth to the north have dictated the need for a third station. It will keep Marion’s response times within the national standard for emergency response times for fire and medical service.

City of Marion Announces New Chief of Police
The City of Marion is pleased to introduce Mike Kitsmiller as its next chief of police. Kitsmiller will be responsible for the administration, coordination and direction of all Marion Police Department activities. The department employs 45 sworn officers and 15 civilian employees.

ROAD WORK: Lucore Road from Indian Creek Road to Bridge
Lucore Road will be restricted to one lane while milling and repaving occurs. The project should be completed by Sept. 20, 2019.

Groundbreaking Set for Sept. 11 for New Marion Fire Station/Headquarters
City leaders and Chamber ambassadors will join members of the Marion Fire Department on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at noon to break ground on Marion’s third fire station. The event will take place at 100 Irish Drive, on the southwest corner of Tower Terrace Road and Irish Drive.

Residents and Businesses Invited to Register Security Cameras
The Marion Police Department has launched a voluntary program to allow local businesses and residents to register the location of their surveillance cameras. The program is a partnership between the Police Department and the community to jointly combat criminal activity in our neighborhoods.

City Offices to Close in Observance of Labor Day
Garbage, recycling and yard waste will not be collected on Labor Day. Collection will be one day late all week, taking place Tuesday through Saturday.
