Sanitary Sewer Sliplining Project Underway
On Monday, June 25, Municipal Pipe and Tool began the sanitary sewer sliplining project. Traffic impacts will be limited as they will only be setup to access the existing manholes in the middle of the street.

Marion Named One of "Most Livable" Cities in America
The City of Marion was among 20 cities to be honored at the 2018 City Livability Awards Program during The U.S. Conference of Mayors’ 86th Annual Meeting in Boston. Marion was selected from a pool of over 150 applicants and recognized for its Uptown Artway placemaking project.

On June 7, the City of Marion announced a new partnership between its Police and Fire Departments, assigning four firefighter/paramedics to be part of the Special Response Team.

Marion Police Department takes on 100-Day Challenge
The goal of the 100-day challenge is to personally contact every business in Marion, Iowa from May 15 to August 23, 2018. The effort will allow the beat officers and supervisors to engage with business owners, employees and managers.

Road Closure Notification - 2018 HMA Resurfacing Project
This project includes milling the existing surface and the placement of two lifts of new HMA. (Hot Mix Asphalt) [Some streets that do not have existing HMA on them will remain concrete and will just have the HMA added to them.] The schedule below was provided by LL Pelling and is weather dependent.

Marion to Honor Members of the Military with Banner Program
The program is designed to recognize veterans and military personnel and their families who have ties to Marion. The banners, each featuring the honoree’s military photo, name, branch, rank and dates of service, will be placed on as many as 125 decorative streetlight poles throughout Marion.

What to Do When an Emergency Vehicle Approaches
Iowa law requires that you pull over as far to the right side of the road as you can and come to a complete stop. If you are in a roundabout, continue through the roundabout and then stop as soon as you can. Do not pull over to left side of the road if you are on a multi-lane road.

Ron Hoover Retiring after 28 Years with the City of Marion
At the end of March, Ron Hoover, longtime building inspection director for the City of Marion is retiring. The City is hosting a reception and open house in his honor on Thursday, March 29 from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Marion City Hall, 1225 6th Avenue.

Marion to participate in National Opioid Data Initiative Study
Marion was one of 11 cities in the United States to be selected to participate with CNA, a nonprofit research and analysis organization located in Arlington, Virginia, in regards to an in-depth study associated with the National Opioid Data Initiative.
