Beginning on Jan. 1, 2023, Doyle made it his mission to run on every street within Marion city limits. He took it a step further and created an animated map to track his progress and practice his geographic information systems (GIS) skills in the process. He completed his last run earlier this week.

Marion City Hall, Marion Public Library and other City offices will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10, in observance of Veterans Day. Garbage, recycling and yard waste will be collected according to the normal schedule on Friday.

At approximately 1:14 a.m. on Oct. 25, 2023, the Marion Fire Department was called to 2325 17th Avenue in Marion for a report of a fire in an unattached garage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The City of Marion will host a trick-or-treat event at City Hall (1225 6th Ave.) from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023. Children can dress up in their Halloween costumes and collect candy and other treats from staff on both floors at Marion City Hall.

At approximately 7:56 p.m. on Oct. 16, 2023, the Marion Fire Department was called to the address of 2730 24th Street in Marion for a fire within the structure. The first arriving fire crew witnessed moderate smoke from the outside and could see a small fire inside.

The site is owned by the City of Marion and located in the core of Uptown Marion, a Main Street Iowa District. Primary frontage is provided by the 6th Avenue Corridor and the Grant Wood Trail passes along the northern edge of the site, providing future connectivity to the regional trail network.
