Seven residents were transported from the scene to local hospitals and some small pets were also affected. The cause of the carbon monoxide is believed to have been caused by a smoldering fire in one of the apartments.

While legally, and within the established parameters, fireworks are permitted in Marion – it is important to remember there are dangers associated with fireworks. The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public event conducted by trained professionals.

The advisory from Linn County Public Health says that while the general population may find the air quality to be acceptable, those sensitive to air pollution should reduce the amount of time spent outdoors doing strenuous activity until conditions improve.

Garbage, recycling and yard waste collection will be delayed by one day for Tuesday-Friday routes. Collection will take place Wednesday through Saturday instead.

The City of Marion collects a 7 percent room tax on overnight stays at hotels and motels in the community. Each year, a portion of the funds are then redistributed through a grant application process to organizations that work to increase tourism in Marion.

On Monday, July 3, Marion will host its 4th annual Fireworks & Fireflies celebration. This free event will take place at the Klopfenstein Amphitheater at Lowe Park beginning at 6 p.m. Enjoy live music by Kick starting at 7 p.m. along with food trucks, balloon twisting and a fireworks finale.

On May 10, 2023, at 6:27 p.m., the Marion Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at 1725 Blairs Ferry Rd., Sun Tan City, in Marion. The Marion Fire Department has concluded its investigation into the cause of the fire.

The work zone will be moved to the westbound lanes of W 8th Avenue and Lindale Drive between Blairs Ferry Road and the W 8th Avenue Indian Creek Bridge. Eastbound traffic will now proceed as normal.
