Marion Fire Department Responds to Carbon Monoxide Incident
Seven residents were transported from the scene to local hospitals and some small pets were also affected. The cause of the carbon monoxide is believed to have been caused by a smoldering fire in one of the apartments.

Marion Fire Department Offers Firework Safety Tips
While legally, and within the established parameters, fireworks are permitted in Marion – it is important to remember there are dangers associated with fireworks. The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public event conducted by trained professionals.

June 29: Marion Parks and Recreation Program Update
The advisory from Linn County Public Health says that while the general population may find the air quality to be acceptable, those sensitive to air pollution should reduce the amount of time spent outdoors doing strenuous activity until conditions improve.

City Offices to Close in Observance of Independence Day
Garbage, recycling and yard waste collection will be delayed by one day for Tuesday-Friday routes. Collection will take place Wednesday through Saturday instead.

Brule` Performance at Lowe Park to Move Indoors; Two Shows Planned at 6 p.m. & 8 p.m.
With the threat of storms in the forecast for this evening, and for the safety of the performers and attendees, the Brule` concert at the Klopfenstein Amphitheater at Lowe Park on Saturday, June 24, is moving inside the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center (4500 N. 10th Street, Marion).

Hotel/Motel Funds Awarded to 10 Area Projects/Organizations
The City of Marion collects a 7 percent room tax on overnight stays at hotels and motels in the community. Each year, a portion of the funds are then redistributed through a grant application process to organizations that work to increase tourism in Marion.

Fireworks & Fireflies to Light Up the Marion Sky on July 3
On Monday, July 3, Marion will host its 4th annual Fireworks & Fireflies celebration. This free event will take place at the Klopfenstein Amphitheater at Lowe Park beginning at 6 p.m. Enjoy live music by Kick starting at 7 p.m. along with food trucks, balloon twisting and a fireworks finale.

Marion Fire Department Concludes Investigation of May 10 Commercial Structure Fire at Sun Tan City
On May 10, 2023, at 6:27 p.m., the Marion Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at 1725 Blairs Ferry Rd., Sun Tan City, in Marion. The Marion Fire Department has concluded its investigation into the cause of the fire.

Marion Residents Reminded of Rules Surrounding Consumer Fireworks Usage
Fireworks may be purchased and used only by persons 18 years of age or older. Fireworks may only be used with the property owner’s permission. Fireworks may NOT be used in public parks. Any other dates and times are authorized by permit only.

Caboose in Marion to be Moved on Thursday for Restoration Work
Plans call for it to be the focal point of a new pocket park located near 31st Street and the Grant Wood Trail that celebrates Marion’s railroad history.

Sunrise Yoga Celebrates its 10th Year at Lowe Park
The first class will take place this Saturday, June 10, and will continue each Saturday at 7:30 a.m. through the end of August. Participants should bring a yoga mat or towel and a water bottle.

Traffic Control to Change on W 8th Avenue/Lindale Drive
The work zone will be moved to the westbound lanes of W 8th Avenue and Lindale Drive between Blairs Ferry Road and the W 8th Avenue Indian Creek Bridge. Eastbound traffic will now proceed as normal.
