Marion City Hall, Marion Public Library and other City facilities will close early today, March 31, 2023, in response to the severe weather forecast for this afternoon and evening.

Beginning Monday, April 3, the intersection of 5th Avenue and 11th Street will be closed for sewer and water main work. This closure is expected to last a week (weather permitting). This closure is happening as a portion of 12th Street is also closed for City Hall roof repair.

The Linn County Master Gardener Plant Sale will be held at the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center, 4500 North 10th Street, Marion on Friday, May 12 from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m.-noon.

They will take large pieces of concrete and reduce them to rock, making material that can be used for other projects. This is similar to the work that occurred at the former Marion YMCA site.

The Nancy A. Miller Marion Public Library opened in 1996. It served Marion’s population for over 20 years before the August 2020 derecho permanently closed the building. Monday’s event will be one of gratitude, reflection, and celebration.

The partnership for lobbying services, which is common for communities the size of Marion, will provide the City of Marion with regular representation before the Iowa General Assembly and State officials regarding proposed legislation and other State-led initiatives that have local implications.

A virtual open house is being held to provide the public with an opportunity to review and ask MPO staff questions about projects seeking funding. The Corridor MPO is also releasing a survey for the FFY 24-27 TIP projects.

The Iowa property tax assessment process is a requirement of state code and is a complex regulated system. The City of Marion does not control this process. In fact, assessments are a completely separate process completed by the Linn County Assessor’s Office.
