2023 Moonlit Movie Series at Lowe Park Announced
Free kids’ activities like face painting, balloon twisting and inflatables will begin at 7 p.m. The feature presentation will begin around 8:30 p.m. Outside food and drink are permitted but select snack vendors will be onsite. Guests should bring chairs/blankets for general lawn seating.

City of Marion to Rededicate Silent Sentinel Statue on May 4
The Silent Sentinel statue is that of an unidentified Civil War soldier. The zinc statue was forged in Connecticut and donated by the Iowa Woman's Relief Corps in 1914. The statue was damaged in the August 2020 derecho and recently reinstalled in City Square Park.

Marion Consumer Confidence Water Quality Report Now Avaialble
The Marion Water Department, in compliance with the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act, is providing its customers with its annual water quality report. This report explains where your water comes from, what it contains, and how it compares to standards set by regulatory agencies.

YMCA Healthy Kids Day and Marion City Showcase Happening this Saturday
In addition to learning about the five pillars of healthy living, kids will have a chance to get up close to various City vehicles, watch a K9 demonstration and win prizes. There will also be games and storytime for younger visitors as well as fitness demonstrations and giveaways.

Celebrate Bike to Work Week May 13-20
Marion will host several bike rides during the week, including the Linn County Ride of Silence on May 17 to remember those lost in cycling accidents across the nation.

Weekly Marion Farmers Market to Open on May 6
Attendees will find fresh produce, baked goods, meats, flowers, honey, jewelry, woodworking, crafts and more at this neighborhood farmers market. In addition, Marion City Council members will hold their weekly office hours at the market from May 6 through Sept. 30, 2023.

Marion City Ordinance Changes for Private Property Tows
Under the new ordinance, towing illegally parked vehicles from private property will be the responsibility of the property owner, lessee, or person in charge of the privately owned property or facility. Marion Police Officers will no longer respond to the scene to facilitate said tows.

Marion Named Tree City USA Growth Award Recipient
Marion was one of 20 Iowa communities to qualify for Tree City USA Growth status. To receive the award, a city must, at a minimum, provide education and public relations; partnerships; planning and management; and tree planting and maintenance in their communities.

City of Marion to Host an Educational Event called "Save Money While Helping the Environment"
The City of Marion will host “Save Money While Helping the Environment” at the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center on Saturday, April 15, at 10 a.m. Experts will present tangible things residents can do in the home and yard to save money – and help the environment at the same time.

City of Marion Now Accepting Hotel/Motel Grant Applications
The City of Marion is now accepting grant applications from any non-profit organization for a project that increases tourism within Marion. Approximately $175,000 is expected to be available for the competitive grant program in the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

City Offices Will be Closed on April 7
Marion City Hall and other City offices will be closed on Friday, April 7. Regular business hours resume on Monday, April 10. Police, Fire and other critical City services will continue to be provided. Garbage, recycling and yard waste will be collected according to the normal schedule.

City of Marion Shares Information for those Impacted by Recent Storms
The City does not intend to do a city-wide collection of storm debris. Those who need to dispose of larger storm debris can contact the Public Services Department to schedule a special/bulk collection. Bulk brush collection is also available curbside for a fee.
