City of Marion Announces Presidents Day Schedule

Marion City Hall will be closed to the public on Monday, Feb. 20 for annual cleaning. Other City facilities will be open normal business hours. Garbage and recycling will be collected on Monday and according to the normal schedule for the remainder of the week.

City of Marion and Linn County Master Gardeners to Host Rain Garden and Rain Barrel Session

Rain gardens improve water quality by promoting the infiltration of rain and reducing stormwater runoff into rivers and creeks. Rain barrels collect rainwater from roofs and downspouts, reducing the amount of water one needs to purchase while also minimizing runoff.

City of Marion and Monarch Research Partner on Community-Wide Tree-Planting Program

Marion residents and landowners who commit to the planting, watering and protection of the trees as they become established can register online for up to three, free, 3-gallon trees provided by Monarch Research. This program specifically targets right-of-way areas.

City Council Intends to Fill Ward 1 Vacancy by Appointment

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be registered voters of the City of Marion and residents of Ward 1. Those eligible and interested in filling the vacancy must submit a resume and write a letter of application expressing one's desire to be considered for appointment.

City of Marion Announces Ward 1 City Council Vacancy

Marion City Council member Colette Atkins has announced her intent to resign as Ward 1 representative on the Marion City Council effective March 31, 2023. Atkins was appointed to fill a vacancy in Ward 1 in October 2018 and was re-elected during the November 2019 election.

FY 2024 City Budget to be Adopted by the End of March

The proposed budget includes the addition of six firefighters as well as wage increases to support the recruitment and retention of police officers. Enhanced public bus service was considered but was deferred as City Council remains mindful of the overall impact of increases to property tax bill.
