Alburnett Road and Echo Hill Road Construction to Transition to Next Phase
Phase 2 will completely close the north leg of the intersection to traffic. This means access to Echo Hill Road, east of Alburnett Road, will be limited to Alburnett Road from the south, or Echo Hill Road from the west.

Marion Launches Online Survey to Gather Input on Central Plaza Amenities
An online survey is now available at https://polco.us/sc9trc and will be open through Wednesday, Aug. 31. The feedback will be considered by the Plaza Steering Committee and Marion City Council before design documents are finalized and construction documents are prepared.

Traffic Patterns to Shift as Final Phase of Uptown Construction Project Begins
The closed portion of 10th Street will reopen and work is expected to begin on the two blocks west on 7th Avenue, between 8th and 10th Streets. Three legs of the 10th Street intersection will remain open to traffic.

City of Marion Introduces Kim Downs as its New Deputy City Manager
Downs comes to the City of Marion with more than 22 years of local government experience. She has been a leader and collaborator in the region, having served as city manager for the City of Hiawatha since 2013. Her first day on the job will be Sept. 6, 2022.

Marion Awarded $3 Million in Destination Iowa Funding for Central Plaza and CeMar Trail Connection
The City of Marion was awarded $3 million to be used for the development of a Central Plaza and the completion of the final phase of the CeMar Trail, which connects Uptown Marion to Downtown Cedar Rapids. Together these projects bring more than a decade of planning and public investment to life.

Reception Planned for August 15 to Introduce Marion's Fire Chief Candidates
One internal candidate and three external candidates will be interviewed to lead the department of more than 50 employees. The successful candidate will follow Chief Deb Krebill who retired this spring.

Ordinance Passes to Allow Off-Road Utility Vehicles on Marion Roadways
Beginning Aug. 9, 2022, utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) will be allowed on Marion city streets. UTV operators are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the equipment rules and restrictions outlined in the ordinance prior to operating a UTV in Marion.

Survey Work to Occur on 7th Avenue between 12th and 22nd Streets; Construction Anticipated in 2025
Field crews will be performing survey and historical/archaeological investigations through summer and early fall. Utility locate flags and paint will be visible along the roadway; this step helps ease the process of utility coordination during the design phase.

Progress Continues on the New Marion Public Library; Opening Date to be Determined
Like many projects in recent years, the library has also been impacted by the availability of materials, delivery delays, and labor shortages. Before the building can open to the public, railings on the exterior of the building and shrouds that cover the restroom sinks must be installed.

The shelter and restrooms at the park will be closed indefinitely. The rest of the park will remain open.

ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE: 2022 Asphalt Resurfacing Project
At approximately noon on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, LL Pelling will switch lane closures, traffic control, and detour routes for the work currently impacting 10th Street and 10th Avenue. By the end of day Wednesday, July 27, Northview Drive will be completed reopened to traffic.

Marion Launches Business Innovation & Support Grant for Small Businesses
The Business Innovation & Support Grant is designed for small businesses with one to 10 employees. The grant provides funding ranging from $5,500 to $15,500. Each award comes with up to five hours of mandatory business counseling by a pre-approved business coach.

Debris Removal to Resume in Legion Park
The activity will close a portion of the disc golf course and will result in short-term closures on the Boyson Trail between Thomas and Legion parks as equipment is mobilized. Park users are asked to observe posted signage and keep out of the work zone.
