Based on the progress contractors have made in the last 10 days, and contingent on the completion of the fourth critical item, the Library Board voted to set a soft opening on or before Nov. 15 and schedule an official grand opening event at a later date.

The Marion Police Department has re-launched its surveillance camera registry, which allows local businesses and residents to register the location of their exterior video surveillance cameras. The program is a partnership with the community to combat criminal activity.

Last month, the City of Marion and the Central Plaza Steering Committee sought input from residents on various aspects of the Central Plaza project. The survey results have been shared with City Council and the Steering Committee and are now available to residents.

Pavement, utility, signal and pedestrian work continues to move forward on Phase 1 of the Lindale Trail Extension project. Upcoming road closures along C Avenue NE and Blairs Ferry Road will be necessary to allow the contractor to continue work and will likely impact commuting traffic.

UTVs are only allowed to be in operation between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. at a maximum speed of 35 mph. They are permitted on any city roadway with a speed limit of 35 mph or less, but may not be operated on Business 151/10th Avenue east of 35th Street or East Post Road south of Oak Brook Drive.

Marion City Council awarded 20 local small businesses a combined $293,156 through the Business Innovation & Support Grant last week. The program is being administered as a partnership between the City and the Chamber of Commerce with funds provided by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Garbage, recycling and yard waste will not be collected on Labor Day. Collection will be delayed by one day, taking place Tuesday through Saturday instead. Marion’s splash pads will remain open through Labor Day and then crews will begin the winterization process.
