Weekly Marion Farmers Market to Open on May 7
Marion City Council members will resume their weekly office hours at the market. Every Saturday, one or more council members will be available for questions and conversation during market hours.

Chief Debra Krebill to Retire from Marion Fire Department
A retirement reception is planned to honor and thank Krebill for her years of public service. It will take place on Friday, April 22 from 2-4 p.m. at Fire Station No. 1, 100 Irish Drive, Marion. A brief program is planned for 3 p.m.

Marion Named Tree City USA Growth Award Recipient
Marion was one of 16 Iowa communities to qualify for Tree City USA Growth status. To receive the award, a city must, at a minimum, provide education and public relations; partnerships; planning and management; and tree planting and maintenance in their communities.

Great American Kites Returns to Lowe Park on May 21
In addition to colorful kite displays, the event includes a live onsite broadcast by Z102.9 and free face painting and balloon twisting for kids. Guests should bring lawn chairs or blankets for open lawn seating. Outside food and drink are permitted.

Quality of Life in Marion Receives High Marks in The National Community Survey
The survey measures the overall livability of communities, taking into consideration the relationship between government entities, the private sector, community-based organizations and the residents of a geographic area.

YMCA Healthy Kids Day and Marion City Showcase Happening at the Marion YMCA on April 30
This year, the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day will be held in conjunction with Marion’s City Showcase. Between 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, April 30, there will be dozens of free, hands-on activities for the entire family to enjoy at the Marion YMCA & Community Rec Center, 3701 Irish Drive.

City Offices will be Closed on April 15
Marion City Hall and other City offices will be closed on Friday, April 15. Regular business hours resume on Monday, April 18. Police, Fire and other critical City services will continue to be provided. Garbage and recycling will be collected according to the normal schedule.

Hydrant Flushing to Begin April 12
Employees of the Marion Water Department plan to begin flushing the water system beginning Tuesday, April 12, 2022 and will continue through mid-May, if necessary. Flushing typically begins around 8 a.m. and may continue through 2 a.m.

City of Marion's Hotel/Motel Grant Application Now Available
The City of Marion is now accepting grant applications from any non-profit organization for a project that increases tourism within Marion. Approximately $175,000 is expected to be available for the competitive grant program in the 2022-2023 fiscal year.

Financial Assistance Program Available for Parks & Recreation Programs
The Marion Parks and Recreation Department recognizes that there are Marion residents who are financially unable to participate in programs offered by the department but still desire the opportunity to experience the benefits of leisure activities.

Marion Police Department Forges New Partnership with Cedar Valley Humane Society
The Marion Police Department has formalized a new partnership with the Cedar Valley Humane Society to provide animal control services. The partnership, which goes into effect on Friday, April 1, improves the services available to residents and frees up officers to do other things.

Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization Seeks Input on Federally Funded Projects in the Metro
The Corridor MPO has issued a survey to allow the public to provide their input on which projects should receive funding in this year’s TIP. Proposed projects in this year’s TIP includes funding for roadway, trail, transit and Safe Routes to School projects.
