The Public Services Department allows one free extra bag of garbage the week following Christmas. Curbside collection of real Christmas trees will be provided from Jan. 3 - Jan. 14, 2022. Trees, free of stands and decorations, should be placed at the curb on the normal collection day.

Per city ordinance, property owners are required to maintain their sidewalks. Snow and ice shall be cleared within 36 hours after the snow or ice has been deposited on the sidewalk.

The goal of this salvage harvest is to remove trees that have a limited opportunity to thrive into the future due to the damage they sustained during the derecho, to minimize tree risk situations and to utilize openings created by the storm to re-establish the tree canopy.

The Historic Preservation Commission will hear comments regarding a request for demolition of the former church located at 1277 8th Avenue at their Dec. 14, 2021 meeting at 7:30 a.m. in the City Council Chambers at Marion City Hall. The public is invited to attend to weigh in on the matter.

Every 10 years following the completion of the United States Census, the individual states are required to approve new legislative district maps for both federal and state offices. Due to Marion's continued growth over the past decade, it was necessary to redraw the ward boundaries.
