Marion Economic Development Corporation and Marion Chamber of Commerce will host a candidate forum on Wednesday, Oct. 20 for those running for Marion City Council, Linn-Mar School Board or Marion Independent School Board. It will occur from 5-8:45 p.m. at the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center.

Any existing decorations should be removed by Oct. 15 so that fall clean-up can occur. Holiday decorations may be placed after Thanksgiving and remain in place until March 1.

On Monday, Oct. 11, the intersection at 10th Street and 7th Avenue will be closed, adjacent to what is already closed for the Uptown Streetscape Project. This closure will allow the contractor to work ahead to complete utility work in the intersection.

Trick-or-treating in Marion takes place on Oct. 31. There are no set hours. Participating residents should turn on their porch lights when they are ready to greet trick-or-treaters and turn them off when finished.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will transition to a three-digit dialing code (988) for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline on July 16, 2022. The change will affect Iowa telephone customers in the 515 and 319 area codes by requiring ten-digit dialing to complete local calls.

For the fourth time in five years, the City of Marion was selected as the winner of the All-Star Community Award by the Iowa League of Cities in the large city category. The 2021 award was given for the Marion YMCA & Community Rec Center.
