Linn County, with assistance from Waypoint and HACAP, is administering rent and utility assistance through the federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) to residents of Linn County. This program may provide eligible residents with up to 18 months of rent and/or utility assistance.

City facilities have reopened and normal operating hours have resumed. Marion City Hall has changed its hours of operation to be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Residents and members of the business community may continue to conduct City business online, by phone or via email.

City Council meetings have returned to in person attendance. City Council meets in work session the first and third Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. Regular session meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. on the Thursday following each work session.

The full partnership with the city allowed for a culmination of ideas to come together from the Marion community and YMCA representatives to narrow down an official name of the new facility. The name has now been voted on and approved as the Marion YMCA & Community Rec Center.

Residents are asked to remove any landscape materials they wish to save such as rock, brick, stone block and plastic edging, as well as any ornamental plantings they wish to salvage. Any items left in place at the time of work will be removed and disposed of by the contractor.

With new piers, its original girders and fresh paving, the reconstructed bridge takes on new life for pedestrians and bicyclists and pays tribute to Marion’s railroad history.This portion of the trail will officially reopen after Monday’s ceremony, reinstating the Boyson Trail which has been closed.

A long-awaited reconstruction project in Uptown Marion is slated to begin on July 13, 2021. Work is expected to begin in the 1200 block of 7th Avenue and proceed westerly. Detours will be posted for through traffic, but all businesses remain open.

Any items that sustained water damage due to the flash flooding event will be collected, except for toxic/hazardous materials, propane tanks, auto parts, concrete and roofing materials. The debris should be placed between the sidewalk and curb for collection.

The open house will take place from 3-4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 8 in the Atrium and City Council Chambers at Marion City Hall, 1225 6th Avenue, Marion. A brief program is planned for 4 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Work will continue on 10th Avenue, 24th Street and Grand Avenue as part of the 2021 HMA Resurfacing Project. This portion of the project is expected to last for two weeks, weather permitting. Lincoln Drive has reopened to traffic.
