Garbage, recycling and yard waste will be collected according to the normal schedule on Friday. The Public Services Facility and Yard Waste Drop-off Facility, located at 195 35th Street, will be closed. The recycling and yard waste facilities will resume normal hours on Saturday.

The City of Marion will be hosting the Iowa Salt Applicator Leadership Training (ISALT) on Nov. 17, 2022, at the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center (4500 N. 10th Street) from 8 a.m.-noon. for contractors, city staff, and commercial retailers that conduct snow removal and apply salt as a deicer.

The reception will begin at 4 p.m. in the atrium at Marion City Hall, 1225 6th Avenue, Marion. The meet and greet will be followed by Fagan’s ceremonial oath of office at 5:30 p.m.

Community-wide trick-or-treating in Marion takes place on Halloween. There is no set start time but trick-or-treating should conclude by 8 p.m. Participating residents should turn on their porch lights when they are ready to greet trick-or-treaters and turn them off when finished.

Community leaders, contractors and the business community will gather with Marion Chamber ambassadors to celebrate the substantial completion of the 7th Avenue Reconstruction & Streetscape Project. A ribbon-cutting celebration will take place on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 4 p.m. in the North Plaza.

The Marion Library Board of Trustees has set the opening date for the new Marion Public Library facility at 1101 6th Ave., Marion. The library will open to patrons on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022, at 9 a.m. Library patrons can continue to pick up holds and use the computers at the Uptown Branch location.

Library patrons will continue to be able to pick up holds and use the computers, but the collection will no longer be available for browsing. This change will give the moving company time and resources to transfer the materials to the new Marion Public Library location at 1101 6th Ave., Marion.
