As New Year’s Eve approaches, Marion residents are reminded to be aware of the rules surrounding the purchase and use of consumer-grade fireworks within city limits. The use of consumer fireworks is allowed on Dec. 31/Jan. 1 from 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

The goals of the program are to focus on older adults’ safety, reduce their vulnerability to fire, injury or crime and connect them with available community resources. The safety sessions will be held on the first Wednesday of each month from Noon-1 p.m. at Marion Fire Station No.1, 100 Irish Drive.

Garbage and recycling collection will occur according to the regular collection schedule. The Public Services Department allows one free extra bag of garbage the week following Christmas.
